Palliative care is a very important segment covered by the Comprehensive Cancer Care Network in the SW Moravia region. It is intrinsically involved in the core structure of the CCCN because the majority of deaths are reported from either general hospitals or university hospitals in the region. However, inpatient hospices – and recently also specialised mobile palliative care units – have started to play an important and ever-growing role in the end-of-life care provided to cancer patients. The proportion of deaths occurring at home has been growing steadily over time. The Vysočina Region and the South Moravian Region are closely interrelated in terms of migration of cancer patients in terminal stages of the disease; only about 4% of them die outside the region of their residence.
