Long-term and palliative care
Long-term care and palliative care both play an important role in care provided to cancer patients, and are integral to the Czech National Cancer Control Programme, too. These types of care are concentrated into 20 long-term care hospitals (LCTHs) and hospices in SW Moravia. A specialised outpatient department of supportive and palliative oncology is available at the Masaryk Memorial Cancer Institute. However, palliative care is also provided to cancer patients on acute beds in hospitals, and to those in home care (the so-called mobile hospices). A complete overview of healthcare facilities providing long-term care and palliative care in individual regions of the Czech Republic is available at www.onconet.cz, the official website of the Czech National Cancer Control Programme.
